SWAYAM

SWAYAM is a programme initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.

This is done through a platform that facilitates hosting of all the courses, taught in classrooms from Class 9 till post-graduation to be accessed by anyone, anywhere at any time. All the courses are interactive, prepared by the best teachers in the country and are available, free of cost to any learner. More than 1,000 specially chosen faculty and teachers from across the country have participated in preparing these courses.

The courses hosted on SWAYAM are in 4 quadrants – (1) video lecture, (2) specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/printed (3) self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes and (4) an online discussion forum for clearing the doubts. Steps have been taken to enrich the learning experience by using audio-video and multi-media and state of the art pedagogy / technology.

In order to ensure that best quality content is produced and delivered, nine National Coordinators have been appointed. They are:

  AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) for self-paced and international courses

  NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) for Engineering

  UGC (University Grants Commission) for non technical post-graduation education

  CEC (Consortium for Educational Communication) for under-graduate education

  NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) for school education

  NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) for school education

  IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) for out-of-school students

  IIMB (Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore) for management studies

  NITTTR (National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research) for Teacher Training programme

Courses delivered through SWAYAM are available free of cost to the learners, however learners wanting a SWAYAM certificate should register for the final proctored exams that come at a fee and attend in-person at designated centres on specified dates. Eligibility for the certificate will be announced on the course page and learners will get certificates only if this criteria is matched. Universities/colleges approving credit transfer for these courses can use the marks/certificate obtained in these courses for the same.

rEFInd

The rEFInd Boot Manager

This page describes rEFInd, my fork of the rEFIt boot manager for computers based on the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) and Unified EFI (UEFI). 

Like rEFIt, rEFInd is a boot manager, meaning that it presents a menu of options to the user when the computer first starts up. 

rEFInd is not a boot loader, which is a program that loads an OS kernel and hands off control to it. 

Many popular boot managers, such as the Grand Unified Bootloader (GRUB), are also boot loaders, which can blur the distinction in many users' minds. 

All EFI-capable OSes include boot loaders, so this limitation isn't a problem. 

If you're using Linux, you should be aware that several EFI boot loaders are available, so choosing between them can be a challenge. 

In fact, since version 3.3.0, the Linux kernel can function as an EFI boot loader for itself, which gives rEFInd characteristics similar to a boot loader for Linux.

PhotoRec

PhotoRec is file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from hard disks (Mechanical Hard drives, Solid State Drives...), 

CD-ROMs, and lost pictures (thus the Photo Recovery name) from digital camera memory. 

PhotoRec ignores the file system and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's file system has been severely damaged or reformatted.

PhotoRec is free - this open source multi-platform application is distributed under GNU General Public License (GPLV v2+). 

PhotoRec is a companion program to TestDisk, an application for recovering lost partitions on a wide variety of file systems and making non-bootable disks bootable again.

For more safety, PhotoRec uses read-only access to handle the drive or memory card you are about to recover lost data from. 

Important: As soon as a picture or file is accidentally deleted, or you discover any missing, do NOT save any more pictures or files to that memory device or hard disk drive; otherwise you may overwrite your lost data. 

This means that while using PhotoRec, you must not choose to write the recovered files to the same partition they were stored on.

TestDisk

TestDisk is OpenSource software and is licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL v2+).

TestDisk is powerful free data recovery software! It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software: 

certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally deleting a Partition Table). Partition table recovery using TestDisk is really easy.

Rebuild FAT12/FAT16/FAT32 boot sector

TestDisk can be used to collect detailed information about a non-booting drive which can then be sent to a tech for further analysis. 

Those more familiar with such procedures should find TestDisk a handy tool in performing onsite recovery.

Kdenlive is an acronym for KDE Non-Linear Video Editor.

It is a free software (GPL licensed) primarily aimed at the Linux platform, but it also works on BSD 1 as it relies only on portable components (Qt and MLT framework). Windows versions are also available, with some drawbacks. See Windows issues for more information. A port on MacOS is also available.

Through the MLT framework Kdenlive integrates many plugin effects for video and sound processing or creation.
