Free AIR News SMS Service
News Services Division, All India Radio, Provides Free AIR Alert SMS
Service in 10 languages, namely English, Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit, Dogri, Nepali,
Assamese, Gujarati, Malayalam and Tamil.
Under this service important headlines of 2/3 major bulletins are sent daily
free of cost through SMS in languages opted by the subscribers.
On pilot basis, this service has also been extended in 6 more languages,
namely Urdu, Odia, Bengali, Kashmiri, Punjabi and Arunachali.
As of now the news SMS are originating from the NSD Headquarters, New
Delhi. It contains a mix of National, Regional, International, Business and Sports
items. SMS Service on regional news is in pipeline and would be started soon.
How to register for AIR Free News SMS Service
First Method: You can register for this service by simply sending SMS to
7738299899 in the following format from the mobile phone on which SMS service
is required:

Free AIR News SMS Service is a service provided by News Service Division of AIR
under which important headlines of 2/3 major bulletins are sent daily free of cost

2. How do I register for the free AIR News SMS service?
You can register for this free service either by online mode or by sending SMS
through mobile. Online Registration can be done through filling out a Form available on the website www.newsonair.nic.in/smsservice. Registration through mobile can be
done by sending SMS to 7738299899 in the following format from the mobile on which
service is required:

Example: For Hindi SMS service, type AIR HI and send it to 7738299899.

3. When will I start receiving SMS after subscribing for the service?
You will start receiving SMS within 48 hours of subscribing for the service.
4. Will I get news of my region/state in this service?
As of now, the news items are originating from NSD headquarters, Delhi. It
contains a mix of national, regional, international, business and sports items. SMS
service on regional news would be started soon.
5. How do I register for SMS in more than one language?
You may send AIR<space><language code> separately for each language option.
6. How many SMS will I get in a day?
You will get 2/3 SMS per day per language containing important headlines in
Languages you have opted for.
7. I am not receiving the SMS in regional languages properly. The text is missing or
in unreadable format. What should I do?
Some of the mobile phone handsets may not be compatible with receiving of SMS
in regional languages. You may kindly check with the mobile phone service provider. In
general, mobile phones with Android 2.3 and above support unicode for Indian
languages.
8. I have registered for free AIR News SMS service but I am not receiving any SMS.
What should I do?
If you do not receive AIR news SMS within 48 hours after registering for the
service, please check whether you have subscribed to DND (Do not Disturb) service and
let us know through email to airnews.sms@gmail.com or contact our programmers on
011-23421135.
Kindly contact your service provider and request that the keywords pertaining to
AIR News SMS service be taken off the DND list.
9. How do I unregister from the service for all languages?
You may unregister from the service by sending AIR<space>Newsstop to
7738299899.
10. How do I unsubscribe from one or more languages out of the total selected
languages? For example if I have opted for 5 languages and I now want to
unregister 3 languages, how can I do it?
For unregistering any language/languages, you will have to unregister from all the
languages (as in point 9 above) and then re-register through SMS as mentioned in
point 2 above opting one language at a time. One must send a separate SMS for each
language.
